BUSES came to halt yesterday as drivers held a two-minute silence at 11am to remember former Island Coachways managing director George Boucher.

Mr Boucher died on Saturday 9 January, aged 84. He was MD from the early 1980s until 2003 and remained on the board until his death.

The two-minute silence coincided with Mr Boucher’s funeral. Drivers at the bus station gathered while buses out on the roads pulled over to a safe place.

Passengers at the bus station did not mind waiting.

‘I hadn’t heard of him, but this is a nice way to show respect,’ said one man.

A couple, who did not want to be named, said they were happy to wait a few extra minutes. ‘There is so little respect nowadays, so it is good to see this.’
