SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT has registered a Guernsey company and begun the planning application process.

The French company has appointed long-standing employee Bertrand Lepicier as managing director of Sita Guernsey.

Mr Lepicier will oversee the £93.5m. incinerator development and work with both local and international companies during the construction.

He will also build a team of local employees who will be trained to operate the facility.

Despite the project facing a challenge in the States, Suez has registered Sita Guernsey to continue contract negotiations, oversee the detailed permitting and submit the formal planning application. Following completion of an independent environmental impact assessment, Sita Guernsey has now submitted required documents to the Environment Department prior to a formal planning application being made.

‘This is the next step in what has been an extremely thorough and detailed process. Sita Guernsey has already worked very closely with the relevant bodies to ensure that this draft application meets their expectations,’ said Mr Lepicier.

I wonder if Sita Guernsey’s planning application will be fast tracked ?
If I recall correctly both Fruit Export and Stan Brouard had to wait several years before plans were finally passed . Stan Brouard are still waiting I believe.

I think in all fairness it should ne noted that both Fruit Export’s and Stan Brouard’s applications were to erect commercial buildings on formerly agricultural land. If such applications were more contentious and needing more careful consideration than a building on land reclaimed from the sea for industrial purposes it would not be surprising.

After watching anews article that Jersey is not getting the burn process hot enough to ensure minimal toxic emmissions, it does look like the moster will need to be fed.
I am so opposed to this proposal.
With Jersey technically not being kept hot enough, then surely putting Guernsey’s waste into an existing furnace to ensure minimal emmisions is the better approach if anything needs to be done.
Otherwise there is a tangible risk that the two islands will each be running an incinerator each inifficiently and both be omitting toxic fumes!

There is an awful lot of use of the word “will” in this article. I hope the public voice their concerns again and again to stop this monster.

Showing on TV in the near future a documentary called DEATH OF AN ISLAND GROUP, produced by SITA edited by STATES OF GUERNSEY,its about islands slowly poisoned by lack of foresight.
Lets hope the Brouard bid gets through.

The States really need to learn when to admit they’re wrong, I suggest they ask the future generations, those at school whether it’s a good idea to have this fire burning monster.

Well two unconvincing proponents of the Suez plans on Today’s talk in.

Just listening to the consultant waffling about the risk and effectively placing of the PFI like scheme risk on the taxpayer and not the contractor.

Totally unconvincing performance from Bernard and his chums.

    I agree

I think they showed a contemptible disregard to educated forward thinking.

Can we find out who are the money brokers and who are the local directors?

We should be steering well clear of Sita and all their money grabbing hangers-on.

    Same old same old.

After listening to the phone in i am even more convinced that this is the wrong choice. I liked the bit about the response to burning some recycled waste posted by a caller. Response, We have no intention to burn them, yeah right and pigs might fly. Thats not really te same as saying we WONT.

When asked how many of these plants are being built at the now he just waffled on mostly about existing plants, i wonder why that was?

So why can a company with no work here and no permission yet to do any work here be allowed to set up shop here? Are certain folk pre-empting things?

“I think they showed a contemptible disregard to educated forward thinking.”

Did you hear Suez’s local chap Bertrand on the radio saying that they always meet opposition when they are going to build a new EfW incinerator and the opposition is always ‘vocal and educated’!!!? Funny that isn’t it. So if you are not educated, you probably won’t mind an EfW incinerator…. mainly because you won’t have educated yourself about it and as the saying goes, ‘ignorance is bliss’.
But if you do educate yourself about it, you will probably become very vocal as you start to understand what a mass-burn incinerator will mean for your neighbourhood. Clearly, it would be much better for PSD is we would shut up and stay un-educated. How very pesky of us to bother to do a bit of research!
