Vance: We do have strength in depth

Saturday 23rd January 2010, 2:30PM GMT.

Tony VanceTONY VANCE insists he has a healthy pool of players to pick from.

The senior island coach (pictured) yesterday named his squad for next month’s Carlsberg FA National League System Cup quarter-final and it included two new faces in Rangers’ Jacques Isabelle and Bels’ Marc Laws.

Strong competition for places was vital to the team’s success, was his theme of explanation as he added the two newcomers to the 16 that were involved in the victory over the Southern Amateur League.

‘After the good result and performance that was achieved in the previous round, the 16 from that squad deserve to keep their places. They have all been performing well for their clubs too and are in a good shape so there is no reason not to include them.

‘But as I have previously stated I am always keen to ensure that we operate a competitive environment and that none of the players within the squad fall into a comfort zone.

‘While it would be easy to just pick only the same 16 again, I felt that it was a good opportunity to look at some fresh faces. ‘
