Christies ex-boss may be barred as director

Monday 25th January 2010, 2:30PM GMT.

Howard HollandENTREPRENEUR Howard Holland could be banned from operating companies in Guernsey for up to 15 years.

Commerce and Employment has applied to the Royal Court for an order prohibiting him ‘being the director or officer of any company or from participating in, or being in any way concerned in, directly or indirectly, the management, formation, or promotion of any company’.

Mr Holland (pictured) is defending the action, but papers submitted to the court on behalf of the department said it was in the public’s interest that he be disqualified.

As reported by the Guernsey Press two years ago, Mr Holland is currently under a seven-year ban from holding a directorship of any UK company.

That was handed down by the High Court in Belfast because of his conduct as director of CI Restaurants (Ireland) Ltd, which traded as Christies Brasserie in Belfast’s Linehall Street.

The restaurant opened in 2001, but went into liquidation in September 2004 owing nearly £500,000.
