Isolated dialysis beds upset patients ‘but some prefer it’

The new clinical block at the PEH.
HEALTH has defended the layout of the renal unit in the hospital’s new clinical block.
Several patients have complained about two of the dialysis stations being isolated away from the rest of the beds.
A patient’s husband told the Guernsey Press that anyone having dialysis on one of these two single beds suffered a lack of human contact for the four hours the process took.
‘The patients have a strong view that the layout is not very user-friendly in that three beds are side-by-side while two singles are tucked out of the way,’ he said.
While Health acknowledged that some patients were unhappy with the layout, a spokesman said others preferred it.
‘It is true that in the old unit, the patients were able to face each other. Again, whilst this was a popular layout for some patients, for other patients it proved much less so,’ he said.

Agreed Doug, slow news day…
My take on this is that you cant please everyone, and that if I was ever unlucky enough to have serious renal problems, I would be happy just getting the treatment, never mind the surroundings.
