A HOLIDAY cottage let to people with disabilities by the British Red Cross is to be sold.

The charity said that Les Buttes Cottage in Rue des Buttes, St Saviour’s, was no longer economically viable.

The news has upset former Guernsey resident Margaret Ferry, who regularly stays there.

‘I’m very disappointed,’ she said. Finding suitable accommodation for a person in a wheelchair who has complex needs due to their disability is no easy task. I thought the cottage would be open forever.’

Mrs Ferry was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 19 years ago and lives in West Lothian, Scotland, where she moved with her husband in 2000.

She visits the island every year to see her son and grandchildren.

‘This has happened all very quietly and I think the chance to save the cottage being sold has gone,’ said Mrs Ferry, who used to be a secretary at the Vale School. ‘I had such a shock this year when I phoned up to book and I was told that it was being sold.’
