Watson falls at first hurdle
Monday 25th January 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
HEATHER WATSON was knocked out of the girls’ singles at the Australian Open over the weekend.
The US Junior Open champion, who was the number two seed in Melbourne, lost out in three sets to China’s Hao Chen Tang, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Watson, who has been short of competitive tennis recently due to her school exams in Florida, won just 43% of points on her first serve.
In the girls’ doubles, Watson was in line to partner Laura Robson, but the pair no longer appear in the draw after the latter reached the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles having teamed up with Australian Sally Peers.
