VANTAGE pushed Pulp Friction as hard as they have been all season, but once again the second cycle pace-setters came out on top in the Steele Marcwell squash League.

At No. 1 string the gap in class was evident as the diminutive Dave Merrien tried hard but found the rangy Ross Kneller too good on the day.

It was a clash of heavyweights at No. 2 with Pulp’s Mark Sheppard finally knocking out Vantage’s Kevin Murphy 3-2.

Pulp’s third string Gary Rich was again in classy form as he beat Vantage’s Terry Hodson while at No. 4, Vantage’s junior, Jacques Ogier, narrowly won the first game 12-10, but back came Matt Robin to win 3-1.

In the women’s match up, Gemma Coquelin recorded Vantage’s only win of the night, 3-0 over Andrea Nightingale.

With Pulp’s victory, Scope and Bourse were battling for second spot in the league table.

Both teams took it really seriously with strength in their line-ups.
