Airport could close by day while runway is worked on
Wednesday 27th January 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
NO-FLY days could be introduced when the runway is upgraded.
‘Some initial planning discussions have taken place with airport users over the potential closure of the runway for complete days on a number of occasions,’ said airport director Colin Le Ray.
‘These closures will allow more substantial construction tasks to be undertaken where they could not be carried out in overnight shifts.
‘The intention would be to provide a long period of notice of specific closure periods to minimise any disruption to the aircraft operators’ timetable.’
But the idea has not gone down well with airlines, who have yet to be consulted formally.

Will the airport fire service still get their on call bonus on these days ?

Dont be so ridiculous ;)
They will get a bonus holiday and £200 spending money each for every day the airport is closed, after all, if they are not working they are going to need money to spend, its clearly unfair asking them to stay at home, and not give them money to stay at home with!!!
Plus they will get double their usual shift allowance for having to stay at home during such unsociable hours.
