THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL has won the Youth Speaks competition for the third consecutive year.

The Rotary Club of Guernsey public speaking event took place at St James last night and judges chairman the Rev. Graeme Beebee said the panel was impressed.

‘We were blown away by the standard,’ he said.

The competition is open to all secondary schools and has been running for 17 years.

The Grammar School won the intermediate competition for 14- to 16-year-olds and were overall winners, with Elizabeth College winning the senior competition.

Teams of three, a chairman, speaker and proposer of the vote of thanks, talked on a subject of their choice to an audience and a panel of judges: Mr Beebee, Advocate Jessica Roland, of Ozannes, and Col Richard Graham, secretary and ADC to the Lt-Governor.
