Cash-strapped Health create new post to improve billing

Thursday 28th January 2010, 11:30AM GMT.

Princess Elizabeth HospitalA POST for a patient liaison officer has been introduced at Health and Social Services in a bid to make money.

The department is currently advertising in the Guernsey Press for someone to fill the position.

Despite the £6m. in health cuts announced last week, HSSD has decided to introduce the post to safeguard spending and provide a better service for patients.

A spokesman said the position would ensure medical records were checked and all chargeable services recorded to maximise income generation.

That would be helped by the implementation of more stringent pre-admission financial routines, to ensure that income is secured prior to admission.

‘A number of areas within the HSSD have no administrative support to aid in the collation of information relating to chargeable patients and so they require a support function to try to maximise their income generation potential.’
