Jenkins hits wonder goal as Tics come from behind

DANNY MARQUAND spurned a golden opportunity to score his maiden Division One hat-trick at St Peter’s, allowing 17-year-old Jacques Ogier take a late spot-kick – which he duly missed.
Marquand’s two quickfire goals midway through the second period has secured a fifth win of the campaign for Steve Ogier’s side and in so doing transformed a game in which Sylvans had led early on through a fine Wayne Bishop strike.
But the main talking point of the game was a quite superb equaliser from Marquand’s little strike partner, Tom Jenkins (pictured), who just short of half-time scored a goal-of-the-season contender.
Twenty yards out and in one fluent movement with his back to goal the former Saint took a ball onto his chest, flicked it over his head and volleyed an unstoppable shot past the unlucky Ashley Williams, who had a great game between the sticks for the league’s bottom side, but had no chance with the crispness and direction of the volley.
‘Jenks’ goal was different quality,’ said Ogier afterwards.
‘I don’t think you will see a better goal this season.’
