Jersey Select 73, Guernsey 7
COACH Dai Burton was not in charge of the Jersey Select rugby XV who lost 14-10 in Guernsey last year but he still wanted revenge, saying: ‘I live in Jersey and if we lose to Guernsey I want it back’.

After an 11-try, nine-conversion rout and a final score of 73-7 in Jersey’s favour, ‘revenge’ is probably an understatement.

Within the first two minutes, they were 7-0 ahead after flanker Brian Rennison had peeled away from a scrum and then set up scrum-half Tom Hutton for a converted try under the posts.

Three minutes later, outside half Tom Turner – who kicked nine of his side’s 11 tries – dummied before passing to winger Richard Stevens, who burst through on the inside to score beneath the posts.

The conversion made it 14-0 and already the Guernsey players’ body language said it all. They were not looking forward to the rest of the game.

Four more tries were scored in the first half, three of them converted.
