GB hopeful Jackson joins BAFL’s Sussex Thunder team
Wednesday 3rd February 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
GUERNSEYMAN Matt Jackson attended the final tryouts for the Great Britain Lions American Football team at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The 20-year-old wide receiver is hoping to break into the Lions squad for the European Championship campaign this summer.
Jackson (pictured) was recommended for the Senior Lions tryouts last year by island-based coach Steve Rains, who coaches the GB Lions Youth.
The Senior Lions were impressed and set the young Guernseyman some targets around building his strength – months in the gym that seemed to have paid off at the weekend when Jackson got an award for his efforts.
Along with 20 other players, Jackson is a member of the fledgling Guernsey Islanders.
However, the team has been struggling to get off the ground due to the costs of playing games both home or away.
The players are still looking for a sponsor to help launch the team.
