THE son of Alderney vet Clifford Wannop has described the discovery of his father’s body as ‘the best bad news’.
Mr Wannop’s body was found on the Isle of Skye almost four months after he failed to return from a walk in the Kinloch area, where he was holidaying with his sister, Joyce Morley.
A local man discovered Mr Wannop’s body near a deer fence in Kinloch on Wednesday of last week.
Extensive searches involving three mountain rescue teams, two helicopters, search dogs, lifeboat crews and coastguards were stood down two weeks after Mr Wannop was reported missing on 2 October.
Mr Wannop’s son, Winston, said: ‘He was found beyond the area which was searched intensively. The signs are that he suffered a heart attack and was probably dead before the search began. However, it’s too early to say at the moment.’
Winston Wannop said the discovery was good bad news.
‘Everyone in the family who has heard says it has helped enormously. It is the best bad news I’ve had in a long time and, although it’s not perfect, it’s certainly better than before.’
