Guernsey 10, London Irish Amateur 48
GUERNSEY paid the price for fielding an under-strength team as an impressive London Irish Amateur thrashed them by 38 points at Foote’s Lane on Saturday.
The weekend was originally a free one for promotion chasing Guernsey, but with their original home game with Irish falling foul to January’s snow, it was re-arranged to the Sarnians’ disadvantage.
A number of the Greens’ big stars, such as Cameron Patten, Blair Campbell, Jim Elliott, Nick Barton and Simon Sharrott were away.
And it showed as Irish, who went into the match in second place in the league, took all the points with ease.
But coach Jordan Reynolds, who stood in at fly-half, refused to use the lack of a full-strength side as an excuse.
‘I’m still not going to put it down to missing players,’ he said.
