Bitter words between sides as firefighter tribunal closes
Tuesday 9th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
A WAR of words broke out yesterday as the airport firefighters’ tribunal of inquiry drew to a close.
Both Al Brouard, the former chairman of the Public Services Remuneration Committee, and Unite regional industrial organiser Ron Le Cras seized the opportunity to make a closing submission at the conclusion of the eight-day hearing.
Deputy Brouard (pictured) said he was concerned evidence the panel had heard did not add up.
‘I do not believe that a correct picture has been given by a number of witnesses,’ he said.
He said the committee did the best it could for the island but was placed in an ‘invidious position’.
Chairman of the panel David Hogg said the evidence had given rise to ‘some strong feelings’.
‘This has led to personal views being given, but we have been vigilant in excluding these and concentrating on the facts,’ he said.
A written report will be presented to the Bailiff.
