THE Island Games is not something you can simply give up, said the man at the top of the bank which will back the island at the next two NatWest Island games.

MeesPierson (CI) Ltd has announced that it will be continuing its sponsorship of the Guernsey Island Games Association (GIGA) and providing financial support for the next two island games.

GIGA chairman David Inglis said the sponsorship was critical in getting Team Guernsey to the Games.

‘The cost of travel, accommodation and equipment is rising all the time. We rely on sponsors to support our athletes, giving us the opportunity to compete in a wide range of sports at each island games. Without corporate support Team Guernsey would not be able to represent the true level of sporting achievement in the island.’

Rick Denton, the bank’s commercial director, said that the Island Games were not something you could give up.
