RESIDENTS of Maison de Quetteville have already benefited from an improved quality of life, its chairman has said.
Methodist Homes for the Aged chairman Paul Le Boutillier said that even though it has been open for less than three weeks, carers at the new dementia and Alzheimer’s facility had noticed a marked improvement in residents’ conditions.
‘We must not give the impression that this is a cure because this is going to change in the future by the very nature of the disease,’ he said.
‘But we have people here who, two or three weeks ago, were sat in their homes just vegetating. But now, with some stimulus and interaction with carers and other residents, they are a lot more active.
‘It improves their quality of life and that is the important thing. Their quality of life is enriched.’
The home – part-funded by the Guernsey Press-backed Maison Million Appeal – has space for 27 residents.
So far, 18 people have moved in. Mr Boutillier said he expected the rest of the places to be filled in April when furniture for the remaining rooms has been delivered.
