First round defeat in US

HEATHER WATSON has lost to a qualifier in the opening round of the $100,000 Michigan event.

After being given a wild card entry into the main draw she proceeded to lose 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to the American Beatrice Capra.

She is also out of the doubles competition after she and fellow Briton Anne Keothavong lost in straight sets to the number four seeds.
