Work is about to start on Town young people’s centre
Friday 12th February 2010, 2:28PM GMT.
A NEW centre for young people could be open by the autumn.
Work is due to start any day on the former Caves de Bordeaux building in St Peter Port and those behind the project say it cannot happen soon enough.
‘We are getting nearer and nearer to a date when the Caves will be up and running,’ said Alun Williams (pictured).
Education’s head of lifelong learning is spearheading the project with former Bailiwick Scout Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt.
They established a charity, Guernsey Youth, and bought the building in Upper Mansell Street in 2008 with the intention of creating a St Peter Port Centre for Young People.
‘As with all these things we are desperately keen to move it forward.
‘It is frustrating, but understandable, that it has taken so long, but we just want to get in and get on now,’ said Mr Williams.
