Druce ready to go

Saturday 13th February 2010, 2:29PM GMT.

Tom DruceTOM DRUCE faces a tough three rounds in two days as he bids to win his first national senior track medal in Sheffield this weekend.

Druce, 23 (pictured), is currently ranked two in the UK and expects to be seeded among nearly 30 entries in his event at the Avia World Trials and UK Championships.

Sheffield has not been a happy hunting ground for the 400m runner previously, but he is not fazed by that fact.

‘I haven’t had a really good time there yet. But I’m not worrying about it,’ he said yesterday before making the trip up north from his Bath base.

‘It is going to be an exciting weekend and I’m looking forward to it.’

The Sheffield track is not renowned for being a particularly quick indoor surface and of the top UK runners all but current number one Richard Buck are chasing times in the low 47s to win a place in the GB relay squad for the worlds in Doha next month.
