Emergency services at the scene of the fatal crash last August.

A MOTORCYCLIST died after the person driving the vehicle that crashed into him suffered an epileptic fit, an inquest heard yesterday.

Mazvydas Duda, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene following a four-vehicle accident at the Grande Rue filter junction in St Martin’s on 6 August.

The 43-year-old woman, who was not named, later told police that she felt fine while driving along Forest Road but could not remember driving through the traffic lights at Les Caches. The next thing she remembered was sitting in her vehicle surrounded by broken glass.

Inspector Richard Medhurst told how three 14-year-old girls had also been in the vehicle. When the driver began mumbling, shaking her head, not talking properly and staring straight ahead, one of the girls, a passenger in the front seat, began shouting at her.

When the vehicle began to accelerate and drift towards the centre of the road, the girl tried to steer it while trying to remove the ignition key at the same time.

The vehicle hit a wall, deploying the passenger-side airbags, but it kept going and the girls in the rear seats were screaming.

The girl tried again to remove the ignition key but she was unable to reach it. At this point the Toyota struck the rear of Mr Duda’s scooter as he queued behind a stationary Volvo. Mr Duda, who had been going to fetch paint from Valpy’s, was caught between the two vehicles.
