Strawbridge gets his big chance
Saturday 13th February 2010, 2:30PM GMT.
ISLAND boss Tony Vance has turned to Tom Strawbridge (pictured) for today’s vital Carlsberg FA National System Cup quarter-final with Hertfordshire.
Vance was given a headache when his captain Matt Warren was ruled out with medial ligament damage, which he picked up during St Martin’s win over Sylvans last weekend.
The central midfielder is out of action for three to four weeks.
Alex Le Prevost will move from defence into the midfield, while Strawbridge comes into play alongside Sam Cochrane, who has been given the captain’s armband, in the centre of the defence.
Vance said he had no qualms about naming the 20-year-old, who has been on the fringes of the squad for the last year or so, in the starting line up.
‘Tom deserves his call up, he’s been playing very well,’ he said.
