Chris ElliottMORE people seem keen to holiday in Guernsey, according to the latest figures.

Speaking at an Institute of Director’s lunch, director of marketing and tourism Chris Elliott said he was optimistic about the industry this year.

Activity on the VisitGuernsey website was up by 20% in January, interest in e-brochures was up by 115% and the number of brochures being sent out has doubled again.

‘Guernsey is a successful jurisdiction and we are doing pretty well, so we have a need to promote Guernsey,’ he said.

Mr Elliott (pictured) said marketing was a key contributor to ensuring money kept coming into the island.

Tourism underpinned a lot of what Guernsey did, he said, from people going through the airport to Condor and food supplies.

Although the industry is number five in the list that supports the economy, it brings in £70m. a year.

‘A figure not to be sneezed at,’ said Mr Elliott.
