Police swoop as firearms go missing from custody
Wednesday 17th February 2010, 2:30PM GMT.
POLICE have raided properties in Alderney searching for firearms after weapons that had been seized by its States were allegedly stolen.
Three properties were searched by officers last week and one man was arrested. He has since been released.
The raids came after the Alderney States – which is responsible for dangerous weapons seizures – was alerted to the fact that various items had gone missing from the civil defence bunker off Longis Road.
Guernsey Police yesterday confirmed it was investigating the reported theft of firearms.
The missing weapons have been recovered, the spokesman said.
The operation involved Guernsey officers and three from Alderney.
Items collected have been sent to Guernsey for analysis.
A Guernsey Police spokesman said: ‘Responding to intelligence received, five officers from Guernsey travelled to Alderney last week on scheduled flights in support of local officers conducting searches at three locations. One adult man was arrested and released pending further enquiries.
