FIVE new Channel Island records have been approved by the Guernsey and Jersey Record (Rod-Caught) Fish Committees.

Four of them were shore-caught and one boat-caught.

Only one record swapped Bailiwicks and that was Richard Torode’s 59-0-0 shore-caught stingray ousting the 41-0-0 record that had been caught in Jersey way back in 1952.

The other three shore-caught records were Colin Tranter’s 8-15-6 gilthead bream that beat Daryl Butcher’s 8-8-8 previous record, Dave Vaudin’s 1-1-3 shore rockling, which was better than Tim Cotterill’s 1-0-5 mark and Jersey angler C. Renouf, whose 15-15-0 smooth hound replaced A. Gavey’s 15-10-12 fish caught in Jersey in 2005.

Gavey had some consolation for his 5-15-4 boat-caught thin-lipped grey mullet removed the previous 5-5-0 record that was also held by a Jersey angler.
