Waste export to Jersey may no longer be an option

JERSEY’S States is to be asked to rule out importing waste from Guernsey.
Its Environment Scrutiny Panel is to lodge a proposition asking that no discussions or negotiations take place on the matter until the principle of waste importation has been discussed and approved by the Jersey States.
Shipping refuse to Jersey is one of the options currently being aired as an alternative to Public Services’ preferred £93.5m. Suez Environnement incinerator.
The States is due to sign the contract with the company on 11 July but moves are under way to halt the deal.
At this month’s meeting, members will be asked to throw out the Suez plan via Deputy Mary Lowe’s amendment to Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher’s requete, which asks Public Services to go back to the States for final approval before signing.
Deputy Rhoderick Matthews (pictured) is also drawing up an amendment to the requete.
He wants the States to make an approach to Jersey to see if their planned incinerator could deal with Guernsey’s waste.

I think TLS is just trying it on.
If you read the whole story in the press, he says, after much waffleing as is his want, “if the money is right”.
In other words, “Please, please, please, but I must try to offset the £100M+ we spent on our oversize incinerator and try to save a bit of credibility”.
