GTA chairman resigns
Thursday 18th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
GTA University Centre chairman Martyn Mann has resigned.
The move comes just a week after he warned that the training agency could collapse if recommendations in a Commerce and Employment-commissioned report were implemented.
In its ‘Upskilling Guernsey’s Workforce’ report, Frontier Economics said Guernsey needed a cohesive skills strategy and a ‘skills agency’ should be created to develop it.
Frontier said this agency should operate above the GTA, which would become wholly States funded and forced to run more higher education courses while migrating away from subjects already serviced by the private sector.
Mr Mann (pictured) said this could ‘cripple’ the agency and criticised such a ‘top-down’ approach.
It later emerged that Mr Mann’s statement was sent out without the knowledge and consent of the rest of the training agency board.
GTA deputy chairman David Leafe yesterday confirmed the resignation.
