A TAXI driver broke the leg of a teenage boy when she drove into him as she tried to ‘scare’ him.
Fed up with clubbers using Le Truchot as an extension of Fusion nightclub, Caroline Edwards decided to drive close enough to Sam Rawlings to ‘put the wind in his hair’.
But she hit the 14-year-old, breaking his left leg, and her first thought was to claim her fare from the four rugby players she had in her car at the time.
Edwards, 29, admitted dangerous driving and was sentenced in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to 100 hours’ community service. She was disqualified from driving for two years.
The court heard that the incident took place at 8.15pm on 10 April. Sam, now aged 15, was leaving an under-18s disco at the club and had not been drinking.
Judge Philip Robey told Edwards that her good character, guilty plea and remorse had saved her from a prison sentence. But he said the sentence had to be severe enough to deter others from driving ‘in a similarly stupid manner’.
