The schools competition, Guernsey’s Got Genius, which was announced locally back in December, and aims to promote intellectual property awareness to the next generation of business leaders and the island’s workforce, has become the first World IP Day event announced on the World Intellectual Property Organisation website.

The competition was the brainchild of the Intellectual Property Office, in partnership with AO Hall Advocates and Stanleys Patent Attorneys. It calls on children in Years 7 to 13 to come up with an invention, design, logo or product that demonstrates ingenuity.

AO Hall partner Elaine Gray said all of the organisers were delighted that Guernsey had become the first country internationally to have its event announced on the website.

‘This competition highlights how important IP is in the real world and is designed to help the children of today become the entrepreneurs of tomorrow by understanding what IP is and how to protect it,’ said Advocate Gray (pictured).

The title of this article is deceptive, IP is universally accepted as the abbreviation for “Internet Protocol”, and not for “intellectual property”

Another unneccesary States dept trying to justify why it is costing the taxpayers money. How much does this dept cost p.a.? How much revenue does it generate? Is the islands IP needs already covered by the private sector?

SO when I say universally accepted, I am at least correct in saying it is universally accepted, by the sources which define words, and then some.

So if it WAS or if you still think it IS doesn’t make it right, it still makes it deceptive on the terms of people who define their words using a dictionary service.
