FARMERS have given Commerce and Employment their full backing.

Some deputies attacked the department at last month’s States meeting, but the Guernsey Farmers’ Association said that was unjust.

GFA president Rob Waters said the current Commerce and Employment board had shown a good understanding of farming and the commercial side of the industry and of the role that the States played in it.

‘We’ve been impressed with improvements in management of the Dairy and big strides have been made there,’ he said.

‘The Dairy is better run and there seems to be a better atmosphere there.’

It now had a business plan, which looked forward in a positive way and involved asking farmers for more milk so that they could grow their businesses.
