GUERNSEY have to produce the perfect run-in if their push for promotion is to succeed.
Captain Simon Sharrott emphasised that his side, who are third in London Two South-West, cannot afford any slip-ups in the final five matches of the campaign, beginning tomorrow at home to Effingham & Leatherhead, if they want to take the next step up the national ladder.
‘The training this week has been hard and intense to get the lads in the right frame of mind as we cannot afford to drop any points from the remaining matches of the season if we want to compete for promotion and, from the reaction and attitudes from training, it shows there is a great deal of desire to succeed within the squad,’ he said yesterday.
Guernsey go into the game off the back of a 29-21 away win at Bognor, but the display was a far from satisfying one.
‘Last week’s performance was a real disappointment for all the players as we did not get out of the blocks,’ Sharrott said.
‘Luckily, we were playing a poor Bognor side, which allowed us to get away with an underserved win.
