AN 80-year-old woman had to be woken and led through a smoke-filled room to safety after an arson attack.

Bryn and Sue Carre had gone to bed at about 11pm at the home at Les Hautes Landes which they share with Mrs Carre’s mother, Betty Taylor, 80.

About 15 minutes later they were woken by a neighbour, Terry Ingrouille, banging on the window to say that Mrs Taylor’s car was on fire.

Mrs Carre led her mother from her bedroom through her lounge, which was full of smoke, to a part of the house that was clear.

Mrs Taylor’s Toyota was virtually destroyed by the blaze and set fire to the bungalow roof. Mrs Carre’s Honda CR-V, which was parked near her mother’s Toyota, was damaged along the offside.

The Carres’ blaze was one of three started on Friday night.

‘There is a similar sort of pattern and they all happened within a small area at about the same time,’ said Detective Sergeant Karl Zierlinger.
