Sort Our Waste petition has 12,000-plus names
Monday 22nd February 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
MORE than 12,000 names have been put on a petition aimed at stopping the Suez waste plant.
Organiser Rodney Brouard has defended his decision to allow people of all ages to sign it and to allow adults to sign for minors.
‘Someone signed for a three-month-old baby and said that the child would be 30 before they had finished paying for it [the plant],’ said Mr Brouard (pictured).
‘I have asked people not to sign it more than once and if I have seen any duplication I have marked it and I’ve taken any rubbish out.’
The intention had been to finish the petition on Saturday but Mr Brouard said it would now be kept going.
The joint venture partnership between the Stan Brouard Group and the Baltic Development Group placed three full-page adverts in the Guernsey Press last week on which people could declare their support and returns were still coming in.
‘I’d hoped that we would get 20,000 signatures because people will always measure it against the 60,000 population figure,’ he said.
