THINK about the victims – that is the message to arsonists following a spate of attacks at the weekend.
There were three separate incidents in the Vale on Friday night.
A car was set alight which spread to a bungalow in Les Hautes Landes, a motorbike was burned and dumped in a driveway and two cars were torched in a driveway, both in Houmtel Lane.
Detective Sergeant Karl Zierlinger said the residents had been very lucky.
‘I don’t think the people who do these sort of things think about the consequences of their actions. They think it is just a bit of a laugh but it could easily have been a far more serious incident.’
DS Zierlinger said that thankfully arson was rare in Guernsey, but islanders should not be complacent.
‘There is no need to panic about it, just take a few measures to keep yourselves safe. Guernsey is relatively crime-free but it is important to lock your car, even if it is on your driveway,’ he said.

My car was torched in st Sampsons in 1991, 19 years ago. I was 17 and it was my first car. It was a scary experience and one that I will never forget. I only had third party insurance so DO take precaution’s and make sure you are fully comp on your car insurance. Please don’t skimp! It could happen to you. It may be rare that arson happens in Guernsey but why is it still happening 19 years later??

I found this story very upsetting. I can understand kids going a bit too far on occasion, but this really put lives at risk.
Andy, I agree with you. The thing is they will develop empathy one day, and can be thankful that they will only feel guilty for arson, not manslaughter.
