Support on eve of ‘confidence’ vote

Graham GuilleON THE eve of a vote of no confidence in the leader of the Public Accounts Committee, its non-States members have leapt to his defence.

The vote requete will be discussed at this month’s States meeting, which starts tomorrow.

Deputy Graham Guille (pictured) put the confidence motion forward along with seven other States members after the PAC’s work with the Welsh Audit Office was discussed at January’s meeting.

He criticised chairman Leon Gallienne for refusing to take part in the debate but afterwards speaking to the media.

In a letter sent to all politicians, the four non-States PAC members have defended the committee against the charges levelled at it in the requete.

In the motion, the committee is accused of not being accountable to the rest of the States because Deputy Gallienne refused to answer questions about the WAO report when another requete, on consensus government, was debated.

However, the four members argue that that was not relevant because the requete did not say the PAC had to submit to any form of scrutiny by the Assembly.
