AROUND 90 protestors were on the steps of the Royal Court demonstrating against the Suez plant this morning.

They carried messages including ‘kerb-side, not Suez-side’ as deputies squeezed past ahead of the States debate.

Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher’s requete that would give other plants and options including export to Jersey until around June to prove themselves is on the agenda.

Public Services member Tom Le Pelley was handed a 13,000 strong petition by Rodney Brouard, who was hopeful his preferred Vantage waste plant would get a chance.

Some deputies used other entrances to avoid the protestors, who greeted Public Services minister Bernard Flouquet with some jeers.

Protestors were given some heartening news with speculation that another deputy that had previously supported Suez would back the requete.

The waste debate is likely to begin either late this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
