PROTESTERS yesterday pleaded with deputies to change the course of the island’s waste strategy.
Around 90 people gathered on the steps of the old Royal Courthouse ahead of the States meeting, protesting against the planned £93.5m. Suez plant.
They carried banners with slogans including ‘kerb-side, not Suez-side’ and ‘think again’ as deputies battled their way through for the debate.
Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher’s requete, which would give other plants and options, including export to Jersey, until around June to prove themselves, was on the agenda, as was an option backed by Deputy Mary Lowe to scrap current plans and start again.
Public Services proposed the Suez plant last July.
Department member Tom Le Pelley was handed a 13,000-signature petition by Rodney Brouard, who was hopeful his preferred Vantage waste plant would get a chance.
‘I’m fairly sure we will have the delay, I’ve got my lucky Man U tie and socks on and we won three-nil last night,’ said Mr Brouard.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
are those supposedly in charge for the welfare of our island so pig headed as to resist all hope of a desire by the people- for the people. and for the welfare of future generations.- that they cannot listen to the voice of Islanders.
One thing is certain- those who are the most dominant in the choice of this in effect
(monstrous air polluter) will know at next election how the people feel.
Whether it is a good , or a bad thing, is inconsequential; The wishes of the people, should be primarily taken into account.
‘The people are tired of hearing these would be teachers, telling us the people how we should listen to them; they are trained by another lot that once ruled.
This has gone on for far too long; out with the proposal_ in with more rational thinking people who at least will listen to the masses rather than those foxes deep in their own little burrows of diverse and foreign Ideas.
We once had a better idea of government even though they were inclined to be aloof to our wishes, but they were never as thick headed as the present lot. I see only one deputy that has any idea of how people think- but then again he is true Guernsey Blood in his veins, not a cocktail of foreign imports.

It seems to me, judging from the comments in this site, that many of the problems Guernsey has stem from being governed by amateur
politicians compounded by an amateur electorate in which cantankerousness, NIMBYism, xenophobia and sheer bloodymindedness seem to run rampant. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see some of those professional p*$$-and-moan artists who insist on their verbal temper tantrums into this forum put their money where their mouth is and run for public office, showing all how to do it properly? Won’t happen, of course, sniping from the sidelines is so much more fun than actually taking responsibility for anything.

Well you can’t even spell right.
It’s BERK, Jerk.
And Islanders have the right to speak out, unlike other bullying countries.
.At least it’s in black ands white, not stashed away in some corner of a windmill in your mind.

eric – I am surprised that you are not taking issue with Rodney Brouard supporting an English imperialist football team, rather than a local one!

Well TL;
thankfully I respond to things that happen to our Island:
I do not search the beaches for items to twiddle about:
To me sport is sport. not a kick about as you may wish to do.
Besides if he does involve himself with football, then maybe it was wrong for many of our chaps who played professionally for English sides
‘Bill Spurdle the Duke’ Le Tissier.
Therefore on the whole; I’m not pretentious about my Island, I find fault with the Sharks in our
Island not the little caboos on the beaches.,

Eric, come on, admit it, your nom de plume is William Audoire (or vice versa).
Surely there can’t be two people on this small island capable of such incoherent rants!
Bork – well said.

Dot Comma.
I do not have to uses another persons name to put my case forward; you; like your postings show a vivid imagination FULL STOP.
Remember Shakespeare’s words.
“I come to bury Caesar: not to praise him”

eric – it’s Bork because Berk doesn’t rhyme, and I’ll choose the name I want, thank you. By the way, shouldn’t eric be properly spelled Eric, eric? Are you some kind of subversive?
I’ve often found that those people who most loudly insist on their unfettered right of free speech are the ones who least wish the opinions of others to be heard. It’s interesting how quickly you resort to name-calling hiding behind the anonymity of the internet.
To return to the issue, scuppering the Suez incinerator will just let the solution to Guernsey’s garbage problem slip another few years, during which time the garbage dump won’t be getting any less full, and the price tag of anything that is finally done will go up. Shipping garbage to Jersey is at best only a temporary partial solution (and if Jersey politics are anything like Guernsey politics, expect to see them retract their offer due to public pressure once you really want to start shipping the stuff (or else they’ll let you pay through the nose for it)). One thing is for sure, eventually you will have to throw money at this problem (and it’s not the only segment of Guernsey infrastructure that urgently needs substantial expenditure) so it would be best if Guernsey at least avoided falling for the Vantage plant. Now I can’t fault Mr. Brouard on his soccer preferences, but if he really believes the Vantage process will achieve all that is claimed for it he is possibly too credulous to hold a position of influence.

Why have a go at Eric or eric when you yourself in a previous post insulted many more than just one person?

There are at times I find myself wondering just what sort of people we are dealing with.
Some are quite clever withb words, and in many cases write also insulting remarks.
Yet when I, not bothering to be so patronising, but in the good old Guernsey way speak my mind I am accused of insulting.
At times My answers never reach this page, perhaps todays people live in a world of cotton wool, or never came out of schooldays when perhaps they were bullied.
So in plain language, Guernsey language, if you can’t take it then don’t try and be clever and try inciting others to follow your miserable ways of follow my leader,
SPEAK UP, or are you frightened to have adverse replies.
Guernsey people were always ready to speak up, but, these days — oh never mind….
