First time in 15 years fair will not take place
Thursday 25th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.

The alternative festival at Le Chateau des Marais called ‘Ivy Earth Fair’, which took place in 2008 and last year, will go ahead on 7 August, but the main event is cancelled this year. (0602285)
LOCAL bands and DJs are disappointed that the Vale Earth Fair will not be held this year.
The fair has been running on and off for more than 35 years and this is the first time in the last 15 that the event will not take place.
John ‘shmuph’ Murphy of local hip-hop outlet Asylum Seekas, who has played at the event over six times, said he thought the decision would be bad for island bands.
‘I think it is bad for local artists as well as the public,’ he said.
‘It was a guaranteed event for bands and DJs to perform at in the annual events calendar – it’s a bit gutting to be honest.’
Although the main event is not happening, the Vale Earth Fair Collective will host an alternative festival at Le Chateau des Marais called ‘Ivy Earth Fair’.
‘I am grateful for the collective for putting this event on, but it is never going to be the same,’ said Mr Murphy.

As someone currently overseas who cannot ‘read the full story in the Guernsey Press’, what is the reason for not putting on the festival this year?
Report abuse
The reason why is that the collective have been putting this event on for 15 years without a break, we think this year because of lack support, and being simply tuckerd out we have decided to have a break and come back next year fresh and ready for 2011. If anyone reads this we need as much support as we can get we need more members!! If you are interested join our facebook group and sign up !

Gutted
Money, or the general lack of it worldwide, would be my guess.

The rationale for not putting on the Vale Castle Event this year are threefold;
1) A number of the organisers have wanted a year off for a long time – staging the event is a massive task requiring significant personal time commitment. People often forget (perhaps don’t realise) that all organisers are volunteers who don’t benefit financially from the event.
2) 2009′s event was a huge success as we managed to confirm 3 headliners whom we’ve been keen to get for a number of years, hence we felt a natural point to take the long awaited break.
3) The growth of the event and the number of people attending has it’s own logistical issues which have become more and more difficult to manage considering the very few numbers of volunteers who put the event on. We need a rest and a recruitment drive!
The important thing to remember here is that the Vale Earth Fair Collective has not died, we will still put on the Ivy Earth Fair on 7th August at Chateau Des Marais. Our previous events at this venue have been low key but we plan to make this one special considering it’s our only outdoor gig of the year. We hope our usual audience will welcome this and support us/our charities as they have at all our other events. Let’s make it one to remember!
