MATT JENNINGS and James Woolnough are set to fight twice in one day in the preliminary rounds of the ABA Western Counties Championships at the weekend.

Two of the island’s leading boxers, cruiserweight Jennings and light-middleweight Woolnough, have a round-robin contest with two other fighters in their respective classes at Broadplain Boxing Club on Sunday to see who goes through to the Western Counties next month.

It is unusual for Jennings to have to go through the preliminaries.

He won the Western Counties title last year without having to throw a punch when his opponent failed to show up.

Jennings will meet J. McSweeney early in the afternoon before taking on Sam Pumfrey in the evening.

Teenager Woolnough will face Jason Hicks and James Taylor.
