PAC wins support of majority

THE Public Accounts Committee survived – but there was still one resignation in the States yesterday.
A motion of no confidence in the committee brought because some members were unhappy with its handling of the corporate governance review was thrown out by 28 votes to 17 with two abstentions.
But one of the members, Deputy Martin Storey (pictured), announced his resignation from the Scrutiny Committee after its chairman and deputy chairman supported the vote.
‘I consider that the vote of no confidence is personal,’ he said after the debate.
In other jurisdictions these would be against political parties, he said, so were not personal. But in Guernsey people stood as individuals, he said.
‘The chairman [Barry Brehaut], vice-chairman [Matt Fallaize] and some other members of Scrutiny voted in favour of no confidence, as I see it, in me, therefore it would be impossible for me to work with them on Scrutiny.’
Deputy Storey still needs to write a formal resignation letter before it is accepted, but he does not want it debated.
