Get down for Quantic
Saturday 27th February 2010, 10:00AM GMT.

Will Holland, aka DJ Quantic
OF LATE, the local scene has been flooded with great visiting acts – Judge Jules and Ferry Corsten to name a couple.
But you can pigeonhole these acts into the same category: house, trance, stand-on-one-foot-with-hand-in-the-air sort of dance music.
Yeah, you get the picture.
So those of you who aren’t really feeling this vibe and need your musical taste buds revitalised will be pleased to know that The Get Down is making a return on Friday.
And you’ll be doubly pleased to know that it is back on fine form, bringing back musician extraordinaire Quantic.
Remember him? Well, the 600 of you who hit the floor in August 2006 should.
Now, before you all think that I am showing bias, I’m not.
How can I not big-up Quantic? It’s become pretty well known, and indeed is often remarked upon, that Will Holland, aka Quantic, works damn hard.
He has put a lot of records out and is still very young.
And for someone who on his website has a separate drop-down bar for his musical styles (because there are so many) – afrobeat, ballad, blues, funk, jazz, guajira and dub among others – it isn’t hard to ignore the fact we are in for a night with serious musical depth.
This is the sort of night we have been waiting a while for – a night of musical roots that will have even the non-dancers dancing.
‘Jazz sensibility with future dancefloor- orientated grooves, deep funk, tough drums and tropical rhythms,’ is how they are describing Quantic on the website of the record label that signed him, Tru Thoughts.
It’s a massively wide spectrum for just one guy, but this is Quantic.
He is one of the most talented and prolific artists in the world of alternative dance music today.
Over the years he has recorded under various guises, yet first found acclaim in his present guise.
As well as Quantic and the world renowned Quantic Soul Orchestra, Will is one half of The Limp Twins, a duo he formed with Russell Porter.
Initially a DJ partnership, it wasn’t long before they started recording, with Russell taking on the vocal duties and Will adding the magic with his savvy production.
But it is under his Quantic moniker that he has enjoyed constant success.
His music has featured on countless compilations and appeared in TV soundtracks and, as ever, he has a busy schedule of remixes from respected labels across the board.
His track Mi Swing Es Tropical with Nickodemus soundtracked Apple’s worldwide summer iPod advert.
This is one night to remember, and to top it off, it is going to be a Tru Thoughts double-whammy, as the head honcho of the label, Rob Luis, will be performing a DJ set.
Expect nothing short of dancefloor bombs from hip-hop to dubstep, reggae to drum and bass, lots of mad flavours and up-to-the-minute beat exclusives.
Local support comes in the form of Get Down organiser Oneofakind and resident Manzur – the funky torchbearers doing their thing early doors.
