Monday 1st March 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
A CHANGE in culture is what the island needs now the incinerator has been binned, say victorious campaigners.
Suez Environnement opposer Rupert Dorey said exciting times lay ahead for Guernsey and that it was time to step up recycling.
He said that to achieve the new aim of a zero waste strategy, full cooperation would be required from businesses and individuals.
‘We will all owe it to States members to deliver on our side of the bargain,’ he said.
Mr Dorey (pictured) said there was now an incentive for islanders to focus on waste minimisation.
‘We have to be far broader in our approach to achieve island-wide waste minimisation, which will require a sea change in culture and attitudes,’ he said.
Friday’s vote would usher in a new era of trust in local politics.
