Too many pennies spent already

The toilets at the Halfway are boarded up after the latest damage and would cost £30,000 to repair. (0924500)
REPEATED vandalism at the Halfway toilets means they could be permanently closed – or even knocked down.
Head of estate management for Treasury and Resources John Sylvester said they would be closed for the foreseeable future following continual damage.
‘The toilets have been vandalised three times in a row now and it is not a patch-up job to repair them. They need a complete rebuild – which would cost £30,000,’ he said.
The department is currently carrying out a review of all public toilets and those at the Halfway will remain boarded up for the immediate future.
‘Money spent on these toilets will mean it can’t be spent elsewhere.
‘If I spent £30,000 on these toilets and someone vandalised them the next day, the public would not be happy,’ said Mr Sylvester.
He said repairing them would be a waste of money when there were other toilets that must be a higher priority.
