Legislation hold-ups ‘never deliberate’

Wednesday 3rd March 2010, 2:29PM GMT.

Lord BachTHE UK Government yesterday denied it had ever deliberately delayed processing legislation from Guernsey or the other Crown Dependencies.

It follows claims in the past that laws had been held up after concerns were raised about Sark’s compliance with human rights legislation.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Justice Lord Bach spoke to the Justice Committee at its inquiry into the government’s relationship with the Crown Dependencies.

Lord Bach (pictured) denied that any hold-ups were deliberate.

‘It is the nature of things that there are sometimes delays because there are questions or a lot of legislation might come in at once.

‘Also, often there are times when legislation is rushed through at the request of the Crown Dependencies.’
