Join Andy in a race to save Afonso’s life

Saturday 6th March 2010, 2:29PM GMT.

Andy PriaulxANDY PRIAULX is joining a race to save a child’s life.

And Guernsey’s star driver (pictured) is hoping other islanders will help him.

Afonso, the six-year-old son of touring car racer Andre Couto, is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.

But none of the 12 million people registered on the global bone marrow registry is a compatible donor.

As a result, the Guernsey driver and his charity team have organised a special drop-in clinic, enabling men and women aged between 18 and 40 to join The Anthony Nolan Trust Bone Marrow Register.

The clinic will be run by Karen Archer and her team of volunteers from both the UK and Guernsey and will take place next Thursday at King’s Life between noon and 6pm.

Registration is easy and will take only a few minutes. People need only answer a few questions and give a saliva sample.

As well as joining the registry himself, Andy will be in attendance over the lunchtime.
