Bels title party is still on – but put back a week

DESPITE getting the win at North on Saturday they so desperately craved to help claim the league, Bels are going to have to wait another week to get their hands on the old Priaulx Cup.

League leaders Bels needed the victory at their great rivals to take the title, and they also needed Athletics to stop St Martin’s gaining any points.

But with Saints taking all three at Blanche Pierre Lane, Bels will now have to wait until this Saturday for their next opportunity when they face Rovers at the Track.

‘We always knew we weren’t going to win the league today,’ said Bels boss Ian Champion afterwards.

‘If we’re going to win it, it’d be nice to win it at home.

‘It was a great battle today. There’s so much rivalry between the clubs. They’ve got some good youngsters here.

‘I’m delighted with the win. I was expecting a draw.’

Not a good game to watch on a cold day. I thought Schooner had watched a different game from the write up in GP.

Bels looked scared and North looked right out of players. I’m not sure what the substitutions were supposed to have aceived for either team?

Still on balance Bels looked the better side on the day, even if not playing any where near the level they were at earlier in the season.

If IC had a full squad to pick from his bench looked a bit light on quality – if the half time warm up was a fair indication.
