Future of troubled taxi firm due to be decided next week

Monday 8th March 2010, 2:29PM GMT.

Mike NewsomTHE fate of Delta Taxis will be decided in court next week.

The company is resisting an attempt by the States to put it into compulsory liquidation.

Crown Advocate Philip Nicol-Gent told a sitting of the Interlocutory Court that Delta Taxis (2004) Ltd had £123,000 of judgements against it, including about £50,000 that was owed in tax and social security contributions. Other actions were pending.

Delta managing director Mike Newsom (pictured) told the court that he still believed the company could trade its way out of its predicament.

It had been unable to get legal representation but it had engaged the services of an accountant to assess its position.

The company would prefer to go into administration but if the accountant advised that that would not be viable, it would no longer resist the winding up order.

He asked for the case to be adjourned for two weeks to enable the accountant to assess the company’s position.

The matter will come before the court again on Tuesday 16 March.
