Guernsey Post quiet on voluntary redundancies
Tuesday 9th March 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
APPLICATIONS for voluntary redundancy at Guernsey Post have closed but the company has not yet revealed how many people have come forward.
Last month, letters were sent out to 90 people working in administration, retail and management, but not to delivery staff.
Guernsey Post hopes between 10 and 15 staff will volunteer but the utility would not comment on how much money the redundancies would save and what would happen if nobody came forward.
Guernsey Post is carrying out a review of costs and structure in its management, retail and administration departments to make sure it can deal with changes in the postal industry.
The amount Royal Mail charges the company to handle Guernsey’s mail will increase from next month. A new cost structure under which items are priced by size as well as weight is being introduced to reflect charging in the UK.
